10 reasons why the Xbox One will dominate the US this year

The Xbox One has had a troubled start to life, losing out to the PS4 at an alarming rate. North America represents the home of Microsoft and last generation seen the Xbox 360 sell 46 millions units there alone, which represents over half of total Xbox 360 sales. The PS4 currently is outselling the Xbox One in North America but here I shall outline 10 reasons why this early dominance won’t last. Before you continue please read my 7 Spectacular facts about Xbox One sales!

1. Current trends

The Xbox One has been gathering momentum for quite some time and initial interest for the PS4 has somewhat wavered in recent times. This is not due to the ‘Titanfall effect‘ because the game had not been released at the time of the end of this graph. It’s consistently selling well and doesn’t appear to be slowing up like the PS4.

2. Westernised games

Halo 5 will be a system seller
Halo 5 will be a system seller

One thing Microsoft can’t be accused of is not offering games for their home crowd. In a market dominated by FPS games it is the Xbox which has always outshone Playstation consoles in the genre. Halo and the recently released Titanfall are probably enough reason for many gamers in the US to take the plunge on the Xbox One. Sony cater to a much more diverse audience but they have nothing to compete with their two big juggernauts (Sorry Killzone)

3. Huge market yet to make the move

Just over 5 million Americans currently own a PS4 or an Xbox One. This means that around 70 million people who owned a PS3 or Xbox 360 have yet to make their move. If Microsoft implements a price cut expect 360 owners to jump on board. The Xbox One is currently only a few hundred thousand units behind the PS4 and we must wonder how much pricing has to do with this. Of course not all that 70 million will buy either of the consoles but we can expect similar overall numbers, meaning there is a huge untapped market waiting.

4. Price cuts likely

Many retailers in the UK have slashed the price of the Xbox One and considering the comparisons between the two countries I assume price cuts are imminent in the US too. Of course this is just speculation but Microsoft would be a fool not too. You could argue that the Xbox One would have a comfortable lead had it not been for the higher price tag. The fact that Microsoft are currently the ones with the biggest profit margin means there is certainly room for price trimming.

5. Home advantage

Many people are still patriotic and support companies from their own country. This is evident in the way the Japanese market has completely snubbed the Xbox. The Xbox One is tailored to the needs of the American audience, with the TV impressing in the US whilst not catering to users in other countries.

6. Lack of PS4 supply

An unlikely scenario
An unlikely scenario

Supply issues of the PS4 in America are ongoing, whilst other parts of the world may have increased stock it seems Sony is unable to meet demands in the US. The option is to buy an Xbox One, wait an unspecified amount of time or pay over the odds on ebay. Of course there are those willing to wait but there are many sitting on the fence and may decide to get a next-gen console now.

7. The Xbox is multimedia focused

I touched upon this in point 5 but there’s no denying that the Xbox One is the console to get for multimedia functionality. The Xbox One was pretty much designed for the American audience, Live TV is a great feature as well Kinect. Every thing about the Xbox One is aimed at the average American looking for not only a console but an entertainment experience. With huge amounts of gamers currently using services like Netflix and Hulu, the easy use and support offered by the Xbox should make it a winner with the US crowd.

8. Xbox Live

Xbox Live is still the service to beat. The Xbox has been the number 1 console for online gaming for a long time and things haven’t changed this generation. The importance of online games to the Western audience should not be underestimated. The vision Microsoft had all those years ago which accompanied the slogan of ‘It’s better to play together’ has certainly come in to fruition. FPS games are now pretty much exclusively played online these days and it is the Xbox with the better FPS games which will ultimately win over the American crowd.

9. Microsoft can afford to play the waiting game

By the ‘waiting game’ I mean waiting for 360 owners to make the leap. Hardcore gamers and fans are the only ones who have jumped aboard this generation. Many 360 gamers are happy with their system so see no immediate rush to jump on board a console with relatively few games. The real war shall be won after a few years when both consoles have a much more attractive library of games and represent better value for money. This is where Microsoft will claw back the market, with Kinect being seen as added value once the price lowers, rather than the hindrance to affordability it is viewed as now. The style of games that are generally released on the Xbox will insure the library of One games will be American friendly.

10. Money

Microsoft is a profitable company whilst Sony is in all kinds of financial difficulty. If the situation worsens with the Xbox One you can guarantee that Microsoft will be waving cash in the relevant places. Love or hate Microsoft you can not argue with the fact their pockets are deep and so you can’t rule out any move from them. From purchasing exclusivity deals to buying out developers, nothing is beyond question. Microsoft will not lose on their home territory.

      1. The only deluded people are people like you! You’re not a gamer you’re just pathetic and hateful brand humping fanboy. You and others like you are a cancer in gaming communities you contribute nothing positive to any gaming discussions. Because of your hate you have no credibility in any discussions when it comes to games. Take a long hard look in the mirror maybe someday you’ll grow up.

    1. Yeah it sounds like a teenager wrote this click bait.
Just mark this trash down and be done with this child.
Blogosphere is ruining what use to be once reputable sites because they have to cellar dwell just to compete for clicks. I guess we have N4G to thank for that.

      1. N4G as in Sony land? The amount of trolls on N4G is ridiculous, it’s dominated by Sony fanboys who contribute very little. Don’t be a sheep and go along with all the Xbox hate, embrace all consoles.

      1. I know some 12 year olds that could have done better. I’m not a Sony troll but that was nothing more than a troll article and hear you are trolling the comments. Good troll, I’ll give you that.

  1. I think it’s funny how you used “it seems Sony is unable to meet demands in the US” as one of the arguments for why xbox will outsell PS4 in the US.
Sony PS4 hasn’t been able to meet demand despite having (currently) outsold Xbox by around 300k.

      1. No of course you’re not. You just write nonsensical articles supporting microsoft and the xbone with baseless facts, desperate straw grabbing and horrendously misguided opinions and views because you’re being neutral right?

  2. Oh look, VGD making excuses for the Shitbox again.

Xfuckboys tears are gonna get saltier and saltier. I can’t wait!

  3. .. Really, you aren’t even going to ask why I thought the article was complete bullshit?

    Why even bother with this.

      1. It’s hardly bullshit, I do think the PS4 will win in sales overall. Considering the numbers from last gen and the decline in PS4 sales it’s quite safe to assume that America will be an Xbox territory.

  4. Load of BS.

I guarantee you PS4 will outsell Xbox in the USA this year, and obviously globally. Titanfall is a speed bump.

    1. Nah, USA is Xbox land. The rest of the world will obviously be won by Playstation, just not the US. The UK is probably the only other country that cares about the Xbox One and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ‘wins’ there too.

      1. I stick by what I say. A price cut and America will almost certainly be an Xbox territory. You came back here on my inactive website to gloat about how your console of choice is winning this neverland war. Kudos for dedication though!

  5. The PS4 already won in the only territory that matters, my gaming set up. The 360 continues to get heavily used and my 360 collection continues to grow because the games are all dropping to less than a tenner, so I probably still give more money to Microsoft than I do to Sony currently.

So in my view I think it’s more about how many revenue channels each company offers rather than the number of consoles sold, and the bottom line is money. Microsoft might not sell as many consoles as Sony this generation, but if they’re generating more profit regardless… maybe we should look at income wars rather than console wars?

    1. I think people care less for income wars Mike. People want to see that their own console is outselling their rivals. It’s a sad situation but hey, fanboys are giving me views and hits either way so I will continue to stir up that pot.

  6. Shouldn’t the question be, why hasn’t the Xbox One dominated sales in USA on launch? Microsoft has already lowered Xbox One in the UK, and thrown a free copy of Titanfall to boot, for the simple reason Xbox One wasn’t selling well in the UK as Microsoft had hoped. The truth of the matter is a simple one, Microsoft messed up big time, sadly people are more interested in which console is outputting 1080p games, and Xbox One is clearly not the favourite amongst gamers. PS4 is doing well, so well it’s still out of stock in some places, which clearly shows how popular the system is.

      1. “Many are waiting” on what!!! Surely not a price drop? I would hazard a guess though and say many are waiting for games for the new consoles. Lets be honest, i still play my PS3 more than the PS4 and Xbox One combined for the simple reason the PS3 has more games, more choice and is feature packed, unlike the PS4 and Xbox One which are still in their infancy stage.

  7. How about the author write an article about the xbone trying to catch up before suggesting “domination”? Domination isn’t even a possiblity. The ps4 is supply constrained and yet still carrying the day in the US by a healthy margin. Titanfall was supposed to be a boon for xbone, but thus far the numbers suggests it didn’t move nearly the units Microsoft hoped for. In fact, Infamous Second Son is the first next gen title to reach a million preorders globally, despite the months and months of hype and the incessant marketing of Titanfall. I think that speaks volumes, considering that Titanfall was available for pc and xbone, while Infamous is ps4 only. And this is the reason that Microsoft’s attempt to buy exclusives this gen likely won’t work. Developers will look at the game sales for ps4 games and the money they stand to lose will dwarf whatever Microsoft will pay for an exclusive, hindering that tactic that Microsoft uses as a crutch to hide the fact their first party devs aren’t producing enought good content. We’ve already seen EA secure the rights to Titanfall 2 but come out and say clearly that game’s sequel will not be limited to xbone. I have no doubt Microsoft will do well in the US, but suggesting domination is a bit bizarre, don’t you think?

    1. Lot of butthurt people here. Sony fanboys seem to be the worst, I wrote three articles each explaining why you should buy an Xbox One, PS4 and a Wii U. The Xbox One got flooded with hate and went viral because of butthurt Playstation fans.

  8. Wow what a huge xbot article written by an xbot troll who knows nothing.

    (1) Xbox live is worthless and isn’t the service to beat. WHAT FREAKING SERVICE!?

    (2) Xbox one is a brick without xbox live. Paywall browser, apps, streaming services, skype, video capture/upload even one guide and cross game chat.

    (3) huge free games via PS+

    (4) MUCH better performance on PS4

    (5) PS4 already has the lead in US and worldwide and is stomping X1 in software sales too.

    (6) TONS of PS4 exclusives in the pipe.

    (7) FREE EXCLUSIVE content on PS4. Destiny, Watchdogs, Assassins Creed, Metal Gear.

    (8) More video capture time

    (9) Better exclusive feature (friend spectate/take over mode)

    (10) PS4 has FAR BETTER loading times. Installing times and boot up times.

Xbox freaking sucks. overpriced, under performing, exclusives on PC (with free online play), almost no exclusive content (finally does now, instead of pay to play timed DLC only, DLC paying xbox live members still have to pay for).

No reason for an xbox. PC & PS4 FTW.

    1. and Roadshow, obviously a Pulitzer prize winning author of factual data for his completely pointless opinionated post….
      (replys to your list)
What basis do you have to back up this claim that they have no service?
I’ve played both playstation and xbox since their day ones and from my “opinion”
playstations’ online service always seemed laggy and less user friendly.
The xbox online “service” seems to be alot more built around speed and functionality,
i personally like the xbox live service more…. because it feels like its better than the competition

how do you sleep at night? Xbox one is not a brick without xbox live,
the xbox is fine without it, you put dvd in, play game , wheres the problem?

and this is where opinion is king, “huge, free, games” the only thing there that is a fact is “free”,
the thought of them being “huge, or games” is up for debate

MUCH better, as capitalizing MUCH is going to make your statement even less opinionated,
“what has much better performance?” i just downloaded the newest xbox one firmware update (aprils release) last nite,
and guess what it is like xbox on crack, it is so fast moving around the screens and pulling up apps, so please
explain to me how the clunky less thought out (yes this is my opinion) dashboard of the ps4 is better?
but then you say, “im talking about the games dude” not the dashboard, …then i rebuttle with, really, what games?
cuz neither have any at the moment other than titanfall on xbox

i am pretty sure you meant to use the word “LED” as in past tense,
as in the xbox is gaining momentum and is only 300K< shy of your all so precious ps4 stomp,
and after titanfall numbers come out, come back and tell us about the "software sales"

TONS of ps4 exclusives,…. but are any of them good?

This feels alot like opinion 3, xbox gets free content as well, the last game i played , pVz-GW, had free dlc content

because spending your time recording you playing video games is what will make or break this console war round? really? what? ….smh

better exclusive feature (again, reiterating opinion 3 & 7)

ps4 has FAR better loading times?, how do you figure, install times, boot up times, are you kidding me?
i can start a game of titanfall, shut off my xbox, go get a soda,
come back an hour later, turn my xbox back on and be back in my game shooting people in giant mechs (because you can do this on xbox)
      in less than 10 seconds….

    2. I own both the PS4 and Xb1 One I find myself playing the Xb1 75% of the time. Mainly because of a superior early game library & exclusives with Titan Fall & Plants Zombies getting most of my playtime lately. I am optimistic infamous will lesson the gap up until now Knack & KZ were fun while they lasted. I really get tired of the fanboy bs I enjoy games all systems have there winners Xb1 & PS4 are both here to stay for a long time so get over it fanboys and play some games.

  9. I’m hoping to get an XB1 but the more time goes on the less and less likely I will. The fact of the matter is that MS has done nothing since the hype started for next-gen that would want me to get it.

I always get all the systems but for the first time, I’m not getting a WiiU and if MS continues I may skip the XB1. First off, MS the maker of DirectX, the tops in PC graphics has churned out a machine that can’t run their current version. That’s poor.

On top of that, it currently competes with the PS4 but at $100 bucks more, its kinda silly to buy and XB1. Most would say and I do agree, you are getting Kinect 2 with all the voice commands. Those look cool but the novelty wears of especially with no games for Kinect 2.

LIVE used to be the dominant player but its now more expensive than the competition and offering less in terms of perks. I really never thought I would say that about LIVE. Yes, Titanfall looks and plays great and I think is the best game this year so far. Outside of Halo 5 I guess we will have to wait for E3 but this year for both consoles look barren.

MS needs to lower the price, get better exclusives, stop the nickel and diming people

  10. I have both consoles and well pleased with both. The one thing I can never understand is why people come on these sites just to spout venom about the console NOT of their choice. I enjoy video games, always have, always will. Why in a million years would I want any console to fail? Everyone has a preference, but why so much obvious dislike so someone else’s choice. Some users describe the X1 as a “Shitbox”, I just don’t understand this mentality. I just wish sites existed where genuin gamers can meet and discuss both pros and cons about all consoles without Brand fanboys coming on and spitting hatred instead of just enjoying there console of choice.
